Greyhound Pass Lane Markings Print E-mail

Greyhound Pass Lane Markings

Many of you have noticed the newly painted white markings along Greyhound Pass.  In the weeks to come these will become our "pedestrian lanes," although we officially cannot use that term as parking WILL be allowed between the white line and the curb on both sides of the road.  These lines are the result of a long negotiation process with the City of Westfield in attempts to try to slow traffic through our neighborhood.

For the past several years, Westfield has wanted to paint a double yellow line down the center of the road.  And for years, the VF Board has been able to put this off.  With their last offer of the yellow center lines, came this offer of the white lines as well.  According to Westfield Public Works, this will create a calming affect in that traffic will have to slow down as it will have a more narrow lane to follow.

The Board put this issue up for a community vote on our web-site in July of 2009, and our community voted in favor of the lines (62% voting for the lines and 37% voting against the lines.)  At the August 2009 Farms Board meeting, the Board voted in favor of this proposal as well.  They also have continued to discuss further traffic calming measures that our community may be able to add to do even more to make Village Farms more of a neighborhood and less of a thoroughfare.  Among the items still being discussed are speed humps and traffic circles.

Feel free to come to our next Village Farms Board meeting on Tuesday, July 20th at 7p.m. in the clubhouse for an update on these measures.

WESTFIELD, Ind. -- Westfield residents and planning officials said Monday they want more details on a proposal for a nearly $1 billion development.

The city's Advisory Plan Commission took public comments at a standing-room-only meeting at the Westfield City Hall but didn't vote on the project, which has been proposed for 1,400 acres along 146th Street on the city's southwest side.
